FreeIQ – something like a Web 2.0 ClickBank, with free content too.

Or maybe it’s more like YouTube for content, with content for a fee included.

Have you seen FreeIQ?  I find it interesting. It contains a blend of both free content, and content for a fee. The content can be a PDF file, an audio file or a video file. And anyone can upload their content, at no cost.

There is plenty of free stuff on the site, a lot of it about marketing and sales. And, of course, a growing list of information products you pay for. In that sense it is a little like ClickBank, with the accompanying affiliate program.

But the inclusion of the free content makes it more interesting. In addition, there is some useful “Web 2.0” stuff included...like the ability to vote for content.

Also, content is listed according to its popularity. This makes it very different from ClickBank, because the good stuff should rise to the top of the search listings.

The only thing I would worry about is that FreeIQ could easily become a vast and messy repository of  poor quality content, uploaded by site marketers in search of new traffic.

If that happens, it will be a shame. So I’m hoping that the voting system, and the algorithms employed to list quality content higher in the search results, will dissuade people from submitting too much low quality and hype-laden content.

As always, I’m experimenting...so I have uploaded my short e-book, Writing for The Web #1. I’ll be interested to see how it does, both in terms of search results on the site and the number of times it is downloaded.
