Monday Copywriting Tip #16: Be Flexible in Your Tone

When you write for the web, you need to adjust your tone, according to the circumstances. You use the same voice - the voice of your company, organization or yourself. But the tone should change according to your purpose. A formal announcement should be written formally. A customer service email should be written in a friendlier, but not casual tone. The launch of an exciting new product should carry that sense of excitement in your tone of voice.

To change your voice rings false, and is usually manipulative. To change the tone of your voice is simply human.
